Good: Anthony Davis Trademarks his Brow
Anthony Davis, went No.1 to the New Orleans Hornets in the NBA draft this past Thursday. But before he went off to the NBA Davis had to take care of his brows! Davis knows for his connected eyebrows trademarked the phrases “Fear The Brow” and “Raise The Brow” earlier this month.
“I don’t want anyone to try to grow a unibrow because of me and then try to make money off of it,” Davis told CNBC. “Me and my family decided to trademark it because it’s very unique.”
It seems last year as a freshman at Kentucky Davis missed out on a lot of “Brow” merchandise. Davis was a star at Kentucky and helped lead the Wildcats to a National Championship. Local Kentucky merchants decided they would capitalize on the basketball stars unique feature. However, as a college athlete it is prohibited by NCAA rules for Davis to capitalize on it.
Davis said he is frequently told to shave the brow but he says he would never because “everyone’s talking about it.”
Better: Papa Smurf Gets Arrested
On June 14 in Destin Florida a sheriff recognized a man he had previous dealings with. Because the man was in a complex the officer knew he had been kicked out of before he approached the suspect. The man goes by the name Papa Smurf! The officer explained to Papa Smurf that he was issued a trespass warning last time he was in that complex and was supposed to stay out of there. Papa Smurf then told the officer he was too drunk and didn’t remember that incident. Papa Smurf was arrested and charged with misdemeanor trespassing.
Best: Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes are Splitting!
Now this isn’t wacky or even funny but it is definitely headline celebrity news! Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are calling it quits after five years of marriage. Cruise, 49, and Holmes, 33, have a six-year-old daughter Suri. This is Cruise’s third marriage. His first wife was Mimi Rogers, his second was Nicole Kidman.
Who could forget Tom jumping on Oprah’s couch professing his love for Katie…my my how fast things change.
Ok, so as America dissect’s the ‘stunning’ news that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are getting divorced, I would like to ask a question. Why should Kim Kardashian be allowed to get married, in the most shameless and self-promoting way possible, but yet, as a country, gay people still can’t? How can anyone who fervently defends the institution of marriage , in narrowly defined terms as between a man and a woman, not be just as upset over the insanity of the Kardashian-Humphries entanglement? Why are those who continuously emphasize that marriage is a sacred institution, which is only for us privileged straight people, not protesting in front of the Kardashian compound? The reason is quite simple, because it has nothing to do with the ‘sanctity’ of marriage and has everything to do with out right discrimination.
If I were in Congress, I would immediately submit a bill repealing DOMA (which federally defines marriage as being between a man and a woman) and would use the Kardashian’s as my prime example whenever a counter view is stated the tries to define marriage as some ancient American, moral value that should always stay between a man and a woman. Because as we all know, straight people are so good at morally being married.
Now look, I respect everybody’s opinion on this subject and understand, from a culturally religious standpoint, some people genuinely feel it is against their religious beliefs. I am ok with this because I would include language in the bill that precluded churches, if they so chose to, from marrying gay couples. What any religious institution decides to do is their business, but it is not relevant to what the state allows to be done. They are and should be legally viewed, as separate entities, not a merging cluster.
For far to long, we have continuously debated this issue over sensitivities to religion, which is fine. But when these same defenders of traditional marriage, completely go silent on endlessly laughable high profile unions in sports and pop culture, they remain loudly silent. It is because they fail to admit that marriage, between a man and woman, or woman and woman, is complicated. And in many cases, done for immoral or simply, practical reasons, which are reflective of specific relationships between some people and is more of a moment in time, as opposed to a simplified or romantic explanation, regardless of gender.
If one believes marriage should only be between a man and a woman, then simply say it should be because Allah or Christ believes so. I can almost accept that explanation. But do not say it is ‘morally’ wrong, when people such as Kardashian make a complete mockery of the whole thing.
So as I was saying, if I were in congress, I would submit a bill repealing DOMA and call it “The Kim Kardashian Marriage Amendment” and it would only be a sentence long and read exactly like this:
If Kim Kardashian is allowed to get married, then everybody else should be too!
