Homage to My Fellow Artists ♥

Hey there!

In the midst of this crazy, incredible, amazing, painful, passionate, fulfilling, risky journey that I am on (the life of an artist) I wanted to take a moment to pay homage to all my fellow artists out there…

You may take a look at us artists and think “I would love to have talent like that” and you probably look at the really successful artists who top the billboard charts, star in movies or on tv, whose faces are on the cover of magazines and think “must be nice.” But the truth is, while we may make it look good, years and years of blood, sweat, tears and heartache go into making a real career as an artist…

It starts with a passion; an undying, burning desired to create art. And if you leave it behind, as society usually wants you to, a big piece of you dies inside. For me, I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything else with my life…

Then comes the chase, pursuing a dream that is shared by so many, and the competition is stiff. Rejection is something you have to get used to in this industry, because you will get 100 “no’s” before you get a “yes”. And let me tell you, us artists are sensitive creatures, so you must develop a tough skin or you will never, ever survive…

And then the chase continues. It NEVER, ever comes easy, even if we make it look that way. You can pretty much forget about making enough money to live off of as an artist until you hit it big. In fact, it will COST you money to get things done at a quality that competes. So, you had better learn to wait tables or get yourself a sugar daddy! (haha, just playing about the sugar daddy part-although there are some who do not rule this option out lol not me tho!)

Throughout this journey, we have to face a lot of invalidation from the people around us for what we are doing in life. We are considered to “have our head in the clouds” by many. And significant others usually don’t get it either… Especially the fact that you work a full time job AND do music/acting/modeling/dancing/painting/etc. full time as well. They are usually simply tolerating it but secretly waiting for you to realize that you gave it the old college and give it up already. Of course there are exceptions to this, and we do receive a great amount of love, support and admiration as well :0)

So, as you can see, this journey has not in any way been easy for me. I have sacrificed so much of my life for my career… And I wouldn’t have it any other way…

With all that said, I really feel the need to pay much respect, love and homage to all of my fellow artists out there, fighting for their dreams- especially the ones who have made it.

I leave you with one of my fave proverbs:
“Don’t be pushed by your problems… Be led by your dreams.” ♥

Much Love ♥

One of America’s Healthiest Cities Is About To Get A Little Bit Healthier!

By Ali Fornash

Boston is a pretty healthy city. In fact it is currently listed at the 3rd healthiest city in the US. This should come as no surprise to Bostonians. Our 44 square mile city contains over 700 different gyms or healthy clubs. It is ranked as the 2nd most walkable city in America. In addition,  Boston has 80% more residents report that they walk or ride a bike to work than the average US city. We have below average rates of obesity, heart disease, cancer, and depression. Last, but certainly not least,   Boston the home of the World’s Oldest Annual Marathon.

Well, Boston is about to get a little bit healthier! Yesterday Boston’s Mayor Tom Menino launched Fitness on the Plaza as part of his Boston Moves For Health Campaign. Fitness on the Plaza is in collaboration with Beantown Bootcamp, Health Yoga Life, South Boston Yoga and The Sports Club/LA and offers free,  full length,  classes that are open to the public at various times through the summer. The program came about as an effort to decrease the illnesses associated with obesity.  Affordability in regard to fitness is a growing issue and people are always looking for low-priced, or in this case FREE options, to get fit, work off stress and improve their overall health.

The Fitness on the Plaza is as follows:

  • Health Yoga Life: Yoga classes very Wednesday morning from 7:30-8:30am, beginning June 6 and ending July 25.
  • South Boston Yoga and The Sports Club/LA: Yoga classes every Thursday Morning from 7:00-8:00am, beginning July 12 and ending August 30.
  • Beantown Bootcamp: Boot camp classes every Friday morning from 6:30-7:30am and Friday afternoons from 2:30-3:30pm.

Drop-ins for all classes are welcome! So if you can’t make it to all, don’t hesitative to drop in when you can!

Yo yo! I hope everyone is enjoying this gorgeous weather we are having!

I’ve had a ton of people ask me lately “So, MJ, what’s next for you?” or ” What have you been working on lately?” or ” When ‘s your next show?” Although there are some EXCITING things in the works that I can’t share just yet, I can tell you this:

California Love <3

Hey hey hey! Hope everyone is having an awesome Monday so far! (or at least as awesome as a Monday CAN be, haha) I just touched down in Boston a couple of days ago after spending a week in sunny southern California! I was there writing and recording with the ridiculously talented producer Devine Evans and his amazingly fabulous songwriting team “The Senate” (credits include Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, and many, many others).

Now, I will admit it- I was a tad nervous when I arrived. But that went away fast once we got rolling. They were so great to work with! I was def pushed outside my comfort zone of how I am used to doing things in the studio, since I am so used to working with my team here in Boston and how we do things. You see, there is no right or wrong way to write a song, so long as you wind up with an amazing product in the end. But working with The Senate and seeing how they do things was definitely eye opening for me. The talent and creativity these writers have is just incredible! Each person on the team brought their own individual artistry to the table that made my record complete. Including myself, there were 7 writers on my song, holy moly! LOL…

We were only able to complete 1 song because, while I was there, Devine was also busy doing the production for Rihanna and Nicki Minaj’s tours (Umm, no big deal!!!) So, while he was doing that I was able to get some much needed R&R by the pool and spent some time with my good friend Joanne and her adorable puppy Uree! She took me to the Hollywood Walk of Fame- here’s a pic of me with on of my biggest idols’ star!
Needless to say, I didn’t want to come home! Ahhh, I can’t wait to go back! So, stay tuned for the release of my hot new track that I recorded with Devine Evans and The Senate, and def stay tuned for my next adventure~!

Much Love,

MJ xoxo
