Hey All :0)
I just got back about a week ago from being in LA for the Grammy’s! It was so amazing being out there during all of the excitment! My hair stylist/sponsor Oriana Harris of Salon Marc Harris came with me for the week and we totally worked it, lol! We went to a variety of Pre Grammy parties including The Senate Music Group’s, Jermaine Dupre’s and Vibe Magazine’s. There were many celebrity sightings (I def had to wipe the star struck look off my face when I randomly realized I was standing right next to Usher, LOL! ) but more importantly, we got to network with some very important and accomplished people in the game (you know I had my business cards ready!). That alone made the trip worth it :0)
For the Grammys I wore a dress custom made for me by local Boston designer Polina Pantuyshina- http://www.pantyushina.com/ – my hair was done by my sponsor Oriana Harris of Salon Marc Harris on Newbury Street- www.salonmarcharris.com – and my makeup was by LA makeup artist Joanne Kang. I def got teary eyed when I was getting ready- going to the Grammys is something I have dreamed about since I was a little girl.
At first our seats were… Well, not that great lol. But, I was just grateful to be there. Then, about halfway through the show, my friend Printz hit me up and asked if we wanted to come to one of the VIP suites… We were like UMM, YES! So, we had to wait till commercial break to leave our seats because that’s the rule there. The suite was freakin amazing! We were with the owner of the Grammy record label, so we had literally the best possible view, right in the center of the floor! Not to mention the free champagne, oer d’oeuvres and desserts… We were just like omg is this real life?! Lol! Afterwards we went to the official Grammy Afterparty, which was pretty fun as well.
Another teary-eyed moment for me was seeing one of my very good friends, Sean, with my friend Kevin, performing at the Grammys with Justin Timberlake and Jay Z. Sean plays trumpet and Kevin plays trombone, they both went to Berklee College of Music with me. Oriana and I went to hang out with them the next day and we were reminiscing of all the fun times we had in Boston… I can’t really explain the feeling I had when I was watching Sean on stage with JT, I’ve only had it a couple of times in my life, but it’s like this: you see someone you know so well work there asses off for a long time at something they are passionate about and finally one day you see them on stage performing the freakin Grammys. I was just so overwhelmed with pride…
My last night in LA I went to go visit my good friend and talented producer/engineer/songwriter/musician Devine Evans at the studio. Although Devine was the very reason I even got the opportunity to go to the Grammy’s, I didn’t get to hang out with him very much at all when I was there because he was also a part of the production of Justin Timberlake’s Grammy performance, not to mention he was the main man behind his songwriting team The Senate- www.thesenateonline.com – Pre Grammy Party which was quite the production itself! When I was at the studio, I got to hear a sneak peek of The Senate’s upcoming mixtape “Red Moon” and all I have to say is this: absolutely amazing. Oh, and I can’t forget that when I left the studio to use the bathroom, I found myself standing outside of Alicia Keys’s rehearsal which was happening in the very next room! My heart was pounding so hard lol… I love me some Alicia Keys :0)

As some of you may know, I recently completed the pro DJ course at the Mmmmaven School in Cambridge, MA ( Www.mmmmaven.com ) In hindsight, it was totally worth it! I eat, sleep and breath music, so being a DJ is another creative outlet that I’ve been wanting to add to my tool belt for a while now. I can now mix and beatmatch on the turntables and navigate myself through Serato (Pro DJing software!) I honestly love it and can’t wait to get out there and spin for a live crowd! My very first DJ gig is this coming Tuesday, Jan 29th at the Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge, MA At 9pm, along with my fellow DJ course grads! Ahhhh I’m so excited! See you there?!
I have to give a big shoutout to my DJ teacher, Matt McNeill (follow him on twitter: @m_mcneill), he was so pro and such a fab teacher! You could tell that he really wanted us to do well and was dedicated to making sure we really got the material of the course…
I would def def def recommend this course to anyone interested in becoming a DJ!
You can check out my very first DJ mix here:

Melissa Jane has officially launched her indiegogo campaign! But…
What is indiegogo, anyways? Continue reading to find out
WHAT DOES INDIEGOGO DO?
Indiegogo is a crowdfunding platform where people who want to raise
money can create fundraising campaigns to tell their story and get the
word out. Indiegogo is also a place to discover what people all over
the world are passionate about and how to get involved.
WHO USES INDIEGOGO?
People all over the world are using Indiegogo – both to raise money and to contribute to other people’s passions. There is no limitation on who can use Indiegogo as long as you have a valid bank account.
WHY DO PEOPLE CONTRIBUTE TO INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGNS?
People contribute to campaigns for many reasons, but usually it’s
because they want to be involved in what the campaign is doing or
because they want the perks that are part of the campaign.
OK, SO WHO IS MELISSA JANE?
Introducing Melissa Jane: Boston Pop Singer/Songwriter with a Voice to “Remember”
The next big thing never sounds like anyone else, and neither does Melissa Jane.
… First the voice: a sultry breath of soul, sweetened with honey. Then the piercing eyes, killer curves, and earthy cool of a girl with natural sex appeal. Lay it over her hot single “Remember” – which is rocking dance clubs on four continents and landed her a nomination for 2011′s Best Independent Artist – and you’ve got a star ready to blow up.
Copycat, Melissa Jane is not. While she names Pop/R&B goddesses like Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, and Aretha Franklin as influences, “you can’t really compare Melissa to anyone,” says producer Rio, who co-wrote and produced “Remember” with Melissa at Bristol Entertainment in Boston. “She has her own style, full of blue-eyed soul. The successful artists I’ve seen are the ones whose drive you can’t kill, and she has that.”
Melissa is currently working on her new EP with RIO (Akon, Swizz Beats, Jada, Dropkick Murphy’s), Devine Evans and the Senate (Rihanna, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj) and a few other talented producers and songwriters. Meanwhile, “Remember” can be heard in clubs and on radio in Tokyo, Buenos Aires, London, and down America’s east coast. Production team Tokyo Angel of Tokyo, Japan remixed the track for Barzet Records—hear it now on beatport.com. Melissa was even tapped to sing “Remember” in the Massachusetts indie film Sunblocked.
Oh, and consider Jay-Z a fan. The hip-hop icon has called Melissa “a rockstar…just like a little diamond,” and percussionist Frank Knuckles of The Roots gave her a shout-out on Twitter. A proud fashionista, she did all the artistic direction for her most recent photo shoot herself, and she even scored an official sponsorship from Betsey Johnson. Salon Marc Harris and women’s clothing retailer 344, both of Boston, are also proud sponsors.
A bold performer, Melissa has played hundreds of shows from Boston and New York to Orlando and New Orleans. Gigs at Boston’s legendary Hard Rock Café and Paradise Rock Club are on her résumé, and she sang the National Anthem before 38,000 Red Sox fans at Fenway Park, at a New England Revolution game in Gillette Stadium, and before NASCAR races at New England’s Seekonk Speedway. Her and her fabulous backup dancers most recently shared the stage with legendary R&B group Color Me Badd.
“I’ve got big goals. Hitting #1 on Billboard or winning Grammy Awards would be amazing. But honestly, I’ve always dreamed of performing at Madison Square Garden and collaborating with The Roots, Jay Z, or Kanye West,” says Melissa.
It’s an ambition shared by many, but the talent is all Melissa Jane.
WHY IS MELISSA JANE LAUNCHING AN INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN?
First, I want to say thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about my campaign. I am an independent artist from the Boston area working hard to finish producing my EP. Having performed all over the east coast and releasing a few singles along the way, I am finally taking a huge step forward in my career and need a little more help from to get there. I am so thankful and lucky to be making this EP and am only here with the help and support of my fans and sponsors along the way. Thank you for believing in me thus far and I hope that with a little more help that we can all be dancing to my new single this Spring! :0)
Creating the EP is only half the battle. I am hoping to really make a
big splash with this release, and I know that means smart marketing.
I’ve met a reknown music marketing company in San Francisco,
Independent Distribution Collective, to get the plan set.
We are hoping to create a buzz across the U.S. and then grow a
worldwide fan base and exposure throughout 2013. Here is a breakdown of expenses included and what is included:
Finish producing EP Single = $1,500
Marketing Campaign = $6,000
2 Month PR Campaign
US Radio Promotion
Digital Marketing Campaign
Web promotion and SEO
Music Video with = $6,000
EP Release Party (which you are so invited to!) $500
Indiegogo fundraiser campaign fees= $100
I’m hoping that launching this EP will help secure a deal to finish the full album. Each contribution helps me get closer to that goal. Our goal is set at a modest $14,000 but in actuality, finishing the album and going on tour will take $33,000+.
I’ve assembled a number of rewards packages as my way of thanking fans that help bring this dream into light. These “perk” packages range from as low as $1 to as large as $5,000.
GREAT! HOW CAN I HELP?
It’s simple, just click the link here to go to the official campaign:
When on the campaign site, click the red button on the right hand side of the page that says “contribute now”
That will bring you to the next page which has easy instructions on how to donate, including choosing an amount, a perk package, and then making your donation! I can assure you this is a very secure site, and that people all over the world have used it to rais millions of dollars for their campaigns!
Don’t worry if you can’t donate, I still need your help! Please help share this campaign with your social networks.
-Ask peeps to get the word out and make some noise
-You can use the Indiegogo share tools
Thank you for reading! Much Love and Happy New Year!

Steve Sweeney (“Me, Myself & Irene”, “There’s Something About Mary”, “Baywatch”)
“Remember is a great song! Can’t wait to hear the album, bet it’s gonna be a knockout!”- Frank Knuckles (The Roots) on Melissa Jane’s single “Remember” via Twitter
“I love your voice! You are a star! Your voice and performance matched the song perfectly! Don’t ever stop singing!” – Kat de Luna (Billboard chart topping artist and Billboard Latin Music Award Winner on Universal Motown Records) to Melissa Jane
It has been quite an eventful year to say the least…. I definitely feel it is safe to say that 2012 was the toughest year to date for me, especially in my personal life. I’m not going to go into detail on what had happened, but spread throughout the entire year was a series of pain and heartache… however, I got through it. A wise man once said “the only way out is the way through,” and that is most definitely the truth. I am now a stronger, wiser person because of what I have made it through, especially in the past year.
Don’t get me wrong- there were also positive happenings for me in 2012. I met several amazing people whom I think and hope will be a part of my life for a very long time. I spent time in the studio with RIO (Jada, Akon, Dropkick Murphy’s, Swizz Beats), Devine Evans and the Senate (Britany Spears, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj) and Chris Billias of Bristol Entertainment (Red One, Jada, New Kids on The Block). I performed with legendary R&B group Color Me Badd and spent lots of time in rehearsal with my fabulous Choreographers- April Forrest of Bristol Entertainment and Xcel of Phunk Phenomenon, as well as my amazing backup dancers- Xcel, Coral, Ricky and Julia. I spent hours upon hours with my extremely talented team completely revamping my image and pulling off a detailed photoshoot that we are all very proud of (photographer Dana Lane, hair stylist Oriana Harris of Salon Marc Harris [my official hair sponsor], clothing stylist Emily Tailer, photoshoot assistants Rich Gilmartin of Fashion Institute of NYC and Sarah Konops of Emmanuel College). I busted my butt to pay for and complete DJ classes at the Mmmmaven DJ school, which proved to be a very worth while venture for me (shout out to my teacher DJ Matt McNeill!) I started my own record label (Norma Jean Records- check us out on FB!) and released a Christmas single (“This Christmas”) which was featured on the Boston’s Best Holidays Hits compilation. I started a blog with my friends at Coffee With Caesar (yay!) and I also spent lots of time in NYC and LA making career moves.
Above and beyond everything that I learned and accomplished in 2012, the most important was finding myself, my true identity and destiny in life… I know it sounds a little cheesy but it is the truth. It is something I have been trying to figure out for a while now… And the events of 2012 made me realize it for sure…
So, the way out is most definitely the way through… And after everything I have been through this past year, the world didn’t end after all ;0)
I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2013, filled with lots of love, laughter and LIFE <3

Hey Caesar Readers :0)
Every year my Dad and I volunteer at the Christmas Charity Event for Homeless Veterans in Boston’s Government Center. I sing for the veterans and my Dad dresses as Santa and hands out presents (except this year-he had Pats tix so I had to fly solo)
My heart really does ache for these men and women who risked their lives and fought for our country- for us- and are now homeless. Believe it or not, they are an amazing crowd to perform for! They are so appreciative, they always cheer extra loud and afterwards they line up for my autograph and/or to get their picture taken with me.
I have to give a big shout out to Mike Soloman and his lovely wife and daughter who do a fabulous job putting the event together every year as well as Joey Scott and John Zucco who also do an amazing job putting together the entertainment every year!
I have many family members who have served in the military. My grandfather, whom I never got to meet, was a Korean War vet and my great grandfather was buried in Arlington National Cemetery right near JFK.

Happy Holidays :0)
